OAKLAND AT SAN FRANCISCO-SUNDAY, JANUARY 7, 2007
By Spencer Chase
Kingston Gee (Oakland) vs Terry Tam (San Francisco)
This match displayed Tam's ability to control the speed and tempo of play.
Gee made some good loops but is not able to get through Tam's strong offense
and defense. Tam wins in straight games.

Avishy Schmidt (Oakland) vs Spencer Chase (San Francisco)
In this match, serve and serve return played a big role in the final
outcome. The first game was mainly Chase playing an all-round style forcing
several mistakes from Schmidt. However in the end, Schmidt pulls out a
21-19 win. In the second game, Chase attacks some of Schmidt's long serves.
When the game became close, Schmidt used his backhand serve and Chase missed
two in a row to give Schmidt a 2-0 lead. In the third game, Chase was able
to mix more offense and all-round play to win at 11-9. In the fourth game,
Schmidt played more consistent and won by a large margin.

This was a very close match. Both players are loopers and have played before
in the Berkeley
Round Robin. In the first few games, Sally Su is attacking well and playing
consistent. In the fourth game, Parry Husbands plays an all-round style and
forces errors from Su. In the fifth game, Su is focused on attacking but
makes several errors. Game to Husbands in the fifth.

THE SEASON. (Photo by Kingston Gee)
Both Oakland players play control games and are good doubles partners. San
Francisco attacked well to win one game but could not play consistent enough
to win in the end. This makes the score 3-1 in favor of Oakland.
That means they need only one more win to beat San
Francisco.

Avishy Schmidt (Oakland) vs Terry Tam (San Francisco)
This game was a nail biter until the last second. Avishy Schmidt
played into Terry Tam's game and lost the first two games of the match.
However in the third game, he started to let Tam attack more and this caused
Tam to make some unforced errors. Now the game is tied at 2-2. In the
last game, Terry Tam starts attacking more but it is too late. Game and
match to Schmidt deuce in the fifth.
