Olympics

Ariel Hsing, a San Jose seventh-grader, finished 1-5 in the women's round robin at the U.S. Olympic trials for table tennis, failing to advance to the North American trials. Hsing, 12, who hopes to qualify for the London Games in 2012, took former Olympian Jasna Reed to seven sets before losing.

"That makes me feel pretty good," said Hsing, who was swept by Reed in their previous encounter. "I wanted to try and make the Olympics, but it's a good experience."
