| BIO:
John has been in the shadows of national junior stars and fellow clubmates Misha Kazantsev and Kevin Phung but he has won a number of titles at the local level from Concord, Fremont, Sacramento, and San Francisco. He has not won any national titles in age or rating events and had a chance a few years ago but was stopped by club member Derick Poon. John is in many of the same age events as Misha and Kevin, so it is hard for him to breakthrough. However, he did have a breakthrough in Sacramento recently defeating Open Singles Champion and junior national team member Trevor Runyan. He also won a rating event there as well as winning his round robin in a different event. His rise in the USATT ratings has been steady, with no major dips. John has been hired by San Francisco coach Masaaki Tajima as a paid assistant coach to help with the younger players at the Sunset Table Tennis Club. Masaaki trusts John to work hard and John trains the lower-ranked players for about three hours each Saturday and Sunday. John is going to apply to take the test to become a club coach. |
