Jonathan Lau, a sophomore at Alameda High School and ping pong champion, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. The skills that Lau obtained from scouting have also helped him outside of scouting as well.

As a founder of the Ping Pong Club of Alameda High School, Lau was able to apply leadership and organization skills that he learned from scouting to improve the club.

During the summer of 2007, Lau traveled to China with his coach and her students to receive ping pong training at a ping pong school in Shun De.

When he came back to America, he competed in the Joola North American Table Tennis Tournament at Stanford University in October, and because of his training in China, he became champion of the Under 800 event.

Lau has been scouting for five years in Troop 3; joined Boy Scouts in the fifth grade.

Throughout scouting Lau had achieved many merit badges and participated in numerous campouts; additionally he has been active in several summer camps including Marin Sierra, Winton and Chiwanakee.

Lau progressed through the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and finally to Eagle. During his scouting experience, Lau has earned 27 merit badges; he has also held the leadership positions of senior patrol leader, den chief and is a member of the Order of the Arrow.

Lau received guidance from the scoutmaster Steve Teixeira, Jon Ishibashi, Aziz Khatri and his parents.

Lau's Eagle project was a landscaping and clean-up project in Bay Farm School next to the Dumpsters.

The project took four working days and 266 man hours to complete.
