| BIO:
Patrick Wu was one of Chi-sun Chui's students when studying at MIT. Chi-sun, for those who don't know, was one of the top players in our area and in the US in the mid-nineties before MBA school took him to Indiana and his job took him to Tokyo and Hong Kong. Chi-sun, when hearing that Patrick has crossed 2100, was surprised and happy to hear that one of his students had become that good. Northern California players have met 3 students, including Patrick, who have taken Chi-sun's MIT class as his class was very popular at MIT. Chi-sun would like to play in Northern California as well but it may be tough with the Pacific Ocean in the way. Patrick was born in Hong Kong and although the sport is much more popular in Hong Kong than in the US, he began his table-tennis passion in the US at MIT. Patrick's table-tennis travels have taken to numerous local tournaments in Massachusets, New York, and California, and tournaments have taken him to the Nationals in Las Vegas and the US Open Team Tournament during Thanksgiving weekend. Patrick's favorite player is China's Kong Linghui as he integrates consistency with power and is the first Chinese shakehand two-winged looper to become World Men's Singles Champion. Kong has won every major tournament in the world along with Jan-Ove Waldner of Sweden and doubles partner Liu Guoliang of China. To show the strength of China, Kong won the men's singles gold medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and was left off the singles team in the 2004 Athens Olympics! The defending gold medalist was not good enough! By profession, Patrick is
a hardware design engineer and hopes to improve in table-tennis as much as
his potential will take him. He looks forward to playing competitive
matches against all the top players in this area while sharpening his game
and making table-tennis friends at the same time. |
