Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter Helps Open the 2008 U.S. Olympic &
National Team Trials For Table Tennis
Philadelphia - The city of Philadelphia's new mayor, Michael Nutter, visited the
campus of Drexel University for a reception to kick-off the 2008 U.S. Olympic &
National Team Trials – Table Tennis. Nutter joined Drexel President Dr.
Constantine Papadakis in welcoming the four-day event at a festive reception
held at Paul Peck Alumni Center.
In front of an enthusiastic audience and extensive media, Nutter lauded the
efforts of Drexel University and the Philadelphia Sports Congress in bringing
the 2008 U.S. Olympic & National Team Trials – Table Tennis to Philadelphia. The
city is only one of two cities to host two U.S. Olympic Trial events as
Philadelphia will also host the Gymnastics trials.
Also speaking at the reception was People's Republic of China Consul He Bin,
President & CEO National Constitution Center and Chair of the Olympic and
International Sports Project, Joseph Torsella. Interim Executive Director of USA
Table Tennis, Michael Cavanaugh spoke briefly about Philadelphia's fine efforts
as a host city while Tournament Chair and Drexel Director of Athletics, Dr. Eric
Zillmer emceed the event.
The 2008 U.S. Olympic & National Team Trials – Table Tennis will begin Thursday,
Jan. 10 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on the campus of Drexel University.
