BIO:

Heard of multiple-time World Champions Jiang Jialiang and Liu Guoliang?  We have our own version of them in this league and you can now probably guess who we are referring to.  Philip was introduced to the sport at the age of 7 by his Dad Lum Ding who became fond of the sport while living in Hong Kong.  Heard of the Green Bay Packers home field referred to as the frozen tundra?  Somehow Philip's table-tennis room in his house always seemed many degrees lower than a typical California practice venue and gained that same name in his years growing up.  At the age of 7, he started playing against the wall and by the age of 8, Philip became US National Under 10 Boys Singles Champion when the US Nationals were held at home on the UC Berkeley campus.

Philip collected many national titles growing up and has trained in China and Sweden with tournament trips to Taiwan.  He has traveled all over the US.  In China, Philip practiced in Beijing where it's safe to say that he was "overworked."  With the training methods in China, it is not surprising that they have been so dominant in this sport for so long.  Philip has also had former World Champion Zhang Li stay at his house for 3 months to provide intensive training.  Philip's main rival growing up was league founder Shashin Shodhan as they seemed to meet in every tournament they played.  They soon went from intense competitors to regular practice partners and had countless practices in the "tundra."  Philip has experimented with playing penhold with inverted rubber and playing shakehand but pips-out penhold has remained his playing style.  Philip's best tournament win was over David Fernandez and beat David Fernandez when the best pips-out penholder in the US, 2-time Olympian David Zhuang, was losing to David Fernandez consistently.  He also recently reached the final of the 2006 Sacramento Spring Open with wins over Shashin Shodhan, Martin Kosan, and Misha Kazantsev.

Philip is currently an auto mechanic and is considering getting his MBA and owning an auto repair shop as well as working internationally.
