BIO:
Shuja started playing table-tennis in 1984 in his college common room in Karachi, Pakistan. He was inspired by watching the Asian Championships that was held in Islamabad, Pakistan that year. He followed the example of the best Chinese players and adopted the penhold grip as that was the popular grip among the best Chinese players at that time. He joined a table-tennis club in Karachi a year later and thus a new player came into the table-tennis world. He went to medical school a few years later and moved to the US in 1992 to do his residency. He is a medical doctor today specializing in adult psychiatry at Kaiser. Shuja has played numerous tournaments throughout the US and his best wins are against top New York player Alex Perez and two-time national team member Ashu Jain. Shuja has converted from a pips-out penholder to a shakehand hitter and chop-blocker in the recent years. He also plays tennis seriously and is a 4.0 rated tennis player by USA Tennis.
