Terry grew up in Hong Kong and started playing table-tennis while living there at the age of 9 and began receiving coaching. Table-tennis is popular in Hong Kong and two of Hong Kong's biggest stars now are Ko Lai Chak and Li Ching who won the silver medal in the 2004 Athens Olympics in Men's Doubles. This was Hong Kong's first medal since the handover and the second in the country's history. Terry's favorite player is World #1 Wang Liqin and plays table-tennis twice a week. He is married with a baby girl.
