| BIO:
Like many other Asians in the Bay Area, Wayne was first exposed to the sport when he was living in Asia. Wayne began playing in Hong Kong as it was a popular sport there and found out about table-tennis in the US when he was living in his college dorms at UC Berkeley. For those of you that have seen Wayne in person, he has only one real leg because he had polio at age 2. He has played in the 2004 Athens Paralympics and has won a gold medal in the Pan American Games in Class 8 which is a category for standing disabled people. Classes 1-5 refer to wheelchair players and classes 6-10 refer to standing disabled people. The lower the class means the more serious the disability. Class 8 refers to people who have lost some muscle strength in one of their limbs and require a brace for support. Wayne hopes to break through at the Paralympics and win a gold medal in Class 8. Beijing next year?? Wayne thinks that his disability has made him focus more on placement and accuracy as to an all-out attacking game. Wayne likes the excitement of winning but not the unpredictability of the outcomes of matches. Wayne's favorite player is Ma Lin and works as an IC Design Manager. He is married with 3 kids. |
