| BIO:
Whitney Ping, appropriately, excels at ping-pong and is a member of the 2004 US Olympic Team. She became the only Nike-sponsored athlete in the table-tennis world after she made the Olympic Team. Whitney is the newest addition to Northern California table-tennis as she started attending Stanford University in the fall of 2005, moving here from her home in Oregon. She plans to pursue the field of Economics or Management Science and Engineering while at Stanford but still is hungry to achieve more accolades in the table-tennis world. She will continue to play table-tennis competitively as she hopes to notch another Olympic berth in 2008 while also reaching the top 100 in the world ranks. She recently became Women's Collegiate National Team Champion and was a member of the US Collegiate National Team but could not attend the World University Championships in Slovenia. Often times, everything evens out and so we shall ask, does the high of making the 2004 US Olympic Team even out her disappointment of the World Team Trials in 2001 and 2003? In the 2001 Trials, Whitney sprained her ankle and so had to drop out of the tournament. As she was headed to Atlanta for the 2003 Trials, she was caught in a snowstorm in Denver and was stuck in the airport for 4 days and thus could not play in the trials. She went to Europe to train full-time and prepare for the 2004 Olympic Trials and qualified in doubles with former Olympic Women's Doubles Bronze Medalist Jasna Reed. She enjoyed the Olympic experience of partying, going to other sporting events, and meeting many famous athletes such as Andy Roddick, Venus Williams, Mia Hamm, and the star of the games, swimming phenom Michael Phelps. |
