Wilson's table-tennis roots began when he was living in Taiwan at the age of ten.  He was selected to his school's table-tennis team and began training there.  However, his training with the school team only lasted one year and afterwards, Wilson continued to play for fun with his friends for a few years.  After a break from playing, Wilson began to play again when he was in college.  Then came his move to the US in 1998 during the dot-com boom as he knew there were many engineering opportunities in Silicon Valley.  He decided to take the chance and experience a new world in America. 

   Wilson found out about table-tennis here when he played table-tennis in the CAAT (Chinese-American Athletic Tournament) and found out about local clubs through this event.  CAAT is his favorite tournament as well because of the team event.  His favorite player is Deng Yaping who is considered to be the greatest female player of all time.  He admires her ability to overcome her short 4-10 height with quickness.  Deng was many-times World Champion and has four Olympic gold medals and is a household name in China.  Wilson has met Chen Jing in graduate school in Taiwan and Chen is the lady who gave Deng a tough fight in the 1996 Olympic Women's Singles Final.  Chen Jing had originally played for China and in this Olympic final, there was high tension as Taiwan and China were not on the best of terms and Chen Jing was now representing Taiwan.  A fight had broken out in the stands during this Olympic final which ended in Deng's favor. 

  Wilson grew up playing penhold but switched to shakehand in 2002 in hope of having to move less.  However, Wilson realized he still had to move even with the shakehand grip to get a strong forehand attack.  He is a software engineer by profession and is married with no kids yet.
